Grand Rail proposes six story mixed use Iowa City project
Grand Rail Development's plan estimates 40 million dollars for a six story brick building matching City Hall site heritage with options to add two floors. The first floor would host 6,300 square feet of entertainment space under Englert Theatre, with micro retail on ground level and possible Stories Project museum. Two upper floors offer 20 residential units with 16 market rate and four affordable, plus three floors of market rate office space. The team aims for LEED Silver and may adjust layout. Iceberg and Salida Partners' 12 story plan is no longer deemed viable. City staff will negotiate terms before a final council review.
