House fights to preserving small Iowa agencies
A bipartisan group in the Iowa House rejected multiple moves to abolish or reduce authority of small state agencies. Key votes included a 43 to 49 defeat to cut funds for the Spanish-Speaking Peoples Commission and a 20 to 77 defeat to abolish the Commission on the Status of Women. The $27 million human resources package funds several agencies including the Health Department and Parole Board.
