Son of Sam killer Berkowitz pleads guilty to six murders and seven attempted murders in New York. He faces a maximum 25 years to life per count, to run concurrently, with a May 22 sentencing. He also admits to the Donna Lauria and Stacy Moskowitz killings and a diary claim of 2,000 fires in 1974 77.
Thousands crowded Iowa State University in Ames for the 57th Veishea spring celebration. The three day event featured a parade with the theme Myths and Magic and showcased the campus crowd and festivities.
Penick and Ford plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa faces an uncertain future after a mass layoff 14 months ago. Three quarters of the 27 acre site is mothballed while Univar sorts operating from non operating facilities. Some offices may be sold and the Penick name retained as a division of Pacific Resins.
Dr. Bill Stewart 43 becomes Kirkwood Community College superintendent in Iowa Hall after a board vote and ratified a 410 000 one year contract starting July 1. Stewart succeeds the late Dr. Selby Ballantyne and is the second superintendent in Kirkwood history.
Hugh Carter Sr. discusses in a NBC Today interview and in his forthcoming book how Lillian Carter reacted to passages about her family. The memoir portrays the Carters in candid terms including Tina Rosalynn, Jimmy and Earl.
