Player Leads Colonial with 68 in Fort Worth

Gary Player opens with a crisp two under par 68 to top the Colonial National Invitation leaderboard in Fort Worth. Tommy Jacobs trails by one stroke after a strong start, while Gay Brewer Ray Floyd Al Besselink and Jerry Edwards align at par 70. Arnold Palmer shoots 75 and Jack Nicklaus 76, with Julius Boros at 77.

Sectional Title Won by M F L in boys district final

Monona M F L moved into the boys district baseball tournament here and beat Mar Mac 12 to 1 in a sectional final halted after five innings by the 10 run rule. John Wachter and Joe Klinge led with 13 hits, Wachter two doubles and a single driving in three, Klinge four RBIs with three straight singles.

Mimnick Chosen as SCI Captain for 1964 Football

Four veteran linemen were named to lead the State College of Iowa football squad for 1964 after spring drills. Senior guards Jim Jackson and Phil Minnick of Iowa City, senior center Kent Stephenson, and junior guard Ken Beverlin were selected by a squad ballot. Jackson and Minnick also captained the 1963 team with the late Larry Thompson and Larry VanOort.

Jones Breaks 156 MPH Record At Indianapolis

Parnelli Jones in the Agajanian-Bowes Offenhauser tops 156 mph for one lap at Indianapolis, with a 156.223 mph run and a 155.865 mph four lap average. The Torrance, California driver holds the 151.847 one lap and 151.153 four-lap marks from last year, and won the Memorial Day 500.

T-T HLYV Girls Win In Invitational Track Meet

Victor-Tama-Toledo led with 86 points to win the H-L-V high girls invitational as Ann Kaufman swept three events. Kaufman won 60 yard dash, softball throw and shot put, marking an 38 feet even in shot close to the state mark.

Light Heavyweights Fight on TV Friday in Chicago

Chicago AP reports light heavyweights Allen Thomas of Chicago and Bobby Foster of Washington, D.C., will clash in a ten round bout at the Coliseum. The fight is Chicago’s first free television appearance since 1960 and will be aired on ABC at 9 p.m. Friday.

District Title To Aplington Girls Team

The Aplington girls won the 22 team district track meet on the MFL high track with 56 points, led by thirds and seconds along with three firsts in the 440 dash, discus, and 880 relay. Wheatland placed second behind Bentrott’s double wins in the 100 and 60-yard dashes and relay events. Other top finishers included Stuntz and Sill for AP in sprint events, and Freeman and Meyer for AP in field events, as well as strong showings by Plainfield, Wellsburg, and Dysart in relay races.

ISU Spring Tilt Set For Saturday Intra squad Game

Indians fall short as Regis tops Marion in late rally
