Iowa UI study seeks participants in macular degeneration trial
The University of Iowa as clinical center for the Age Related Eye Disease Study 2 invites adults 50 to 85 with macular degeneration to participate. The trial tests lutein zeaxanthin and DHA EPA with placebo for five years, plus yearly eye exams, following initial screening and one month placebo run.

The UI study led by Dr. James Folk invites about 45 participants at the Iowa site and nearly 4000 nationwide to test if supplements like lutein zeaxanthin and omega three oils can reduce macular degeneration risk. Previous research showed vitamins C and E zinc and copper slow disease progression.

Bailey the horse recovers and foals a healthy colt Buster
Bailey the pregnant horse hit by a train near Columbus Junction on Feb 22 delivered a healthy gray brown foal named Buster early April 25 on the Leyden farm two miles west of town. Matt Leyden called the foal a miracle as Bailey recovers with veterinary help at Cedar Rapids clinic.
