The Gazette notes inquiries about whether new indictments will be pursued in Woodbury County or elsewhere in Iowa. It says many indicted at Sioux City could be re indicted, but the decision rests with elected law enforcement. Aged farmer Dan Shine is found dead with a shotgun wound in his home four miles south of Littleport. His widow Mrs Pearl Shine, 24, and her relatives Mrs May Hines 49 and two sons Howard 30 James 26 along with Shine’s bachelor brother Tim are jailed as investigators probe whether the death was staged as suicide. A deed to an 80 acre farm was in Mrs Shine’s name and a bank loan was blocked pending husband’s appearance. Coroner and county attorney indicate murder theories while state investigators join the case.
The House Appropriations Committee reported a 2.36 billion relief-deficiency bill with 1.425 billion for the WPA, cutting 75 million from the request to fund civilian conservation camps and maintain 350000 workers. Hopkins warned of further relief if jobs lag, aiming to employ about 2.8435 million people next year. The bill preserves 15 percent transferability, lists earmarked projects from highways to youth programs, and defends continued work relief separate from the PWA.
A L Haldeman retired Rock Island Railroad superintendent died at home 1945 Bever Avenue SE at 12:30 PM after a lingering illness. Born Dayton Ohio July 19 1876 he served the Rock Island from 1902 rising to chief clerk to the president and later superintendent of the Cedar Rapids Dakota division. The report notes he was the oldest railroad superintendent by service in Iowa at retirement.
Harry Campbell, once a lone wolf in the Karpis Barker gang, was seized by federal agents in Toledo and brought to St. Paul for questioning. Sam Cokar also arrived on the same plane. J Edgar Hoover announced the capture of William Mahan in San Francisco as a principal in the $200000 Weyerhaeuser kidnapping.

The German airship Hin denburg beat the French liner Normandie in a dramatic race as both vessels sliced through a stiff west wind. The Hin denburg, over the Atlantic on its first regular passenger flight from Europe to the United States, passed Land's End at 6 10 am Greenwich time and aimed for a southerly track toward the Azores with plans to reach New York this weekend.
Dusty summer air and heat stress highlight the need to move physically handicapped children from crowded Cedar Rapids areas to Camp Good Health. The Public Health Nursing association lists 101 youngsters awaiting a health building summer vacation, with many needing weeks or an entire summer open-air care. J Edgar Hoover led a large FBI force to seize Harry Campbell and Sam Cokar in Toledo as the Bremer kidnapping case ties to the Karpis Barker gang. Campbell's wife also detained but to be questioned. Both suspects flown to Cleveland and then on to St Paul.

HOLLYWOOD INS reports Mrs. Elzire Dionne the quints mother is due for another birth around June 15 while Olivia Dionne, father, turned down vaudeville bookings as the couple prepare for a film appearance in Where Are My Children. The quints turn two on May 30.
