Mrs. James W. Good of Evans ton Illinois is guest this week of Mr. and Mrs. William M. Deacon at 529 Knollwood Drive SE and is the center of several events. Mrs. Deacon hosted a luncheon. Mrs. James E. Hamilton hosted a team compliment. Mrs. Esther McCandless will entertain the Art Club with Mrs. Good as a special guest.
Five directors of the Community Players will be elected at the annual meeting at the Cedar Rapids Country Club after a 6 30 dinner. John Carey, president, will preside. Expiring terms: Mrs Don Hines Edward S Sheehy Mrs E J Carey Howard Hoff and John Carey. The organization has fifteen directors.
Miss Frances Swab and Miss Virginia Paul, president and vice president of the Beethoven club, entertained members of the club's board at luncheon Wednesday noon at Mrs. Wurster's tea room. Board members present included Miss Swab, Miss Paul, Miss Josephine Botchelder, Miss Frances Bailey, Mrs. E. J. North, Miss Cecelia Kohl, Mrs. R. D. Taylor, Mrs. Bernice Hach Baldwin, Miss Eleanor Houts, Mrs. Ruth Miskim en, Mrs. Leo Peiffer, and Mrs. Lucy Bushnell Ambroz.
Mrs. William Dunshee spoke on gardening at a Tuesday meeting of P. E. O. Chapter FO held at Mrs. Mershall Hickman’s home 1925 Second avenue SE. Mrs. John Gilmore assisted. After the program the group toured Mrs. Dunshee’s garden at 1544 First avenue E. Tea was served. thirty members attended.
Mrs Imogen B Emery of Cedar Rapids new regent of the Iowa Daughters of the American Revolution will be honored at a formal reception Thursday at 830 p m in the Roosevelt room of the Roosevelt hotel Ashley chapter of which Mrs Emery is a member will host Mrs C H Wilkins serves as general chairman
Dr and Mrs W E Peschau of 2401 Fourth avenue SE returned Tuesday evening from a visit to Kentucky They attended the Derby Saturday and on Sunday toured Bardstown during their trip
Mr and Mrs Frank V Orr of 1808 First avenue E returned Tuesday night from Louisville where they attended the Derby on Saturday They motored through Kentucky and spent time in Chicago En route home they were joined by Mrs Orrs father M A Smith and Mr Orrs sister Miss Mabel Orr both of Independence

Mrs. Elmer Tiedeman of Luzerne was honored at a birthday dinner Sunday at the Fred R. Stolba home. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Tiedeman and their son Elmer John, Mr. and Mrs. John Wehrend and their daughter Miss Virginia Wehrend of Marion, and Martha and Bob Stolba.
Mrs. James W. Gray of Minneapolis visits her father Rollin Frink at 218 Twenty-fourth Street Drive SE. She plans to move to Des Moines with Mr. Gray and will first visit Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Gray of Iowa City, formerly of Cedar Rapids.
Queen Esther circle of the King's Daughters will meet Thursday with Mrs. Lewis Emerson at 1635 Grande Avenue SE for luncheon and a business session.

Mr and Mrs W R Baker announce the marriage of their daughter Dorothy to William De Priest son of Mrs Otis Wilson. The ceremony took place Saturday at the First Christian church conducted by Rev Blaine Hyten with immediate family present. Both couples are Washington High School graduates and will reside in Los Angeles.
The Tyler chapter of the P T A will meet Thursday at 2 p.m. in the school for a question and answer review of past study topics.
Miss Violet Snyder and E. E. Pillard both of Cedar Rapids were married Tuesday at Westminster Presbyterian church in Cedar Rapids. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. J Renwick McCullough with hundreds of guests present.
The American Legion Auxiliary of Hanford Post No. 5 met at the Memorial building with 64 members. Plans announced include selling 12,000 veteran made poppies on May 23 and a May 22 radio broadcast at 9 45. Various committees reported on Easter treats, a rummage sale, Mother’s Day cards for Gold Star mothers, grave decoration, and upcoming district and county conferences. Performances by Alma Jean Batchelder and Ruth Bice plus the auxiliary chorus were noted, with refreshments provided by the Decker division.
The Beethoven Club will hold its last program of the season at 8 15 p m Thursday in the Crystal room of the Montrose Hotel. The concert features Debussy pieces, Saint Saens Carnival of Animals movements, and a full orchestra directed by Roland Moehlmann with soloists and pianists listed. Members are urged to note the change of venue and time.
Miss Helen Louise Mumma and George J. Shearer Jr. were married Wednesday at Immaculate Conception church with Rev. Msgr. John M. Molloy officiating. About 350 attended. breakfast followed at Fleming tea room. The couple to reside at 1848 Zika avenue NW after a motor trip to Wisconsin.
Mrs Effie Storey entertained the Women’s Relief Corps officers club at her home 1705 C Avenue NE with a luncheon. Mrs Florence Sherman assisted and read excerpts from a history of the Grand Army of the Republic. Members sewed garments for Perkins Hospital Iowa City.
Miss Elizabeth McCormick and George Kading, both of Van Horne, married Tuesday at 8 a.m. by Rev. T. J. Norris. The bride wore ashes of roses crepe and salmon roses. the groom’s party included Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Kimm. The couple will reside in Van Horne where Kading works in Benton county construction.
Miss Helen Main hosted the East Side W C T U gathering with Mothers Day devotions and a program. Mrs Lucetta McCain delivered the national president’s message and Miss Ruth Otto read a poem. The May institute is planned for Trinity church on May 26 with a picnic dinner.
Mrs. R F Erickson retires as council president and installs new officers led by Mrs S V Shonka as president and Mrs Floyd Anderson as vice president at a Roosevelt hotel luncheon. Attendees include district and state officials, past presidents, and staff. program features music and dances.

New board members include Miss Ella Campbell Esta Heath Maude Krebs and Mrs Marie Petras. Reports show education loans totaling 395 22 and 8 donated to four youth camps from emblem sale proceeds.
Westminster Presbyterian church to host its annual mother-daughter banquet in the church dining room Thursday at 6 p.m. Mrs. Earl B. Delzell will lead songs, Mrs. W. J. Barngrover will MC, and Barbara Beals will perform a piano solo. A children’s chorus and a daughters’ trio will sing, with a quilt pageant presented by mothers and daughters.
The Crusaders circle of the King's Daughters will meet with Mrs. Elizabeth Scott at 412 Seventh Avenue SW on Thursday at 7 30 p m. The gathering will be a guest night affair.

The slate includes Democrats and Republicans contesting for sheriff auditor treasurer recorder clerk of district court county attorney supervisor coroner and state legislative representative. Notables include Charles D. Moore and Harry E. Weichman for the legislature, with candidates spread across Vinton Norway Belle Plaine Atkins Benton and other townships. Terms begin 1937 or 1938 for several roles.
