New York AP reports a slow trading session as the Dow Jones average rose 3.92 to 941.23, with the 30 industrials finishing higher after a week of subdued markets. NYSE advances narrowly outnumbered declines, and Big Board volume slipped to 13.21 million shares from 14.76 million.
Waterloo market notes show 25 percent higher price levels for butchers and sows. Butchers averaged 23.75. sows 21.25. Packing plant deliveries ranged 23.50 to 24.00 for butchers and 21.00 to 21.50 for sows.

Des Moines reports Friday USDA market chatter for town and river markets. Beef prices show steer values steady to weak, heifers steady to 50 lower with specific 500-700 and 700-800 lb ranges. Fresh pork cuts fairly active with modest gains on picnics and hams, loin and belly prices detailed by weight, noting seedless bellies and inner ham values.
Webster City Iowa AP reports a light cattle market with insufficient cattle to form a market. Hog receipts 200. prices 50 to 75 higher. sows up 25. Butchers mostly 23.50 to 24.25, highs 24.75. Sows 21.50 to 22.00, one at 22.25. Boars steady. over 350 lbs top 22.50. under 350 lbs 18.50 to 20.50.
DES MOINES AP Two temporary Iowa members of the Democratic national convention platform committee were to be selected Saturday by the Iowa Democratic state central committee. Democratic State Chairman Clif Larson said permanent Iowa members will be named after the state presidential convention on May 20. Temporary members must be named to attend a platform committee meeting in Washington on May 15.
Prices on Saturday for Cedar Rapids hogs were steady with Friday’s bids: bulk country and plant delivered butchers 200 to 230 pounds at 24 to 24.50 dollars. sows 300 pounds down at 21 to 21.25. butchers over 230 pounds discounted per 10 pounds. Packers cut by weight grades, and heavier hogs faced further reductions. Sheep and poultry prices listed, with eggs and grain quotes also provided.
Gustavus Adolphus defeated Luther 6-3 in Decorah extending Luther’s early season loss. Luther's Bob Frost won No. 1 singles and teamed with Jim Carlson for No. 2 doubles. Gustavus players Keith Keerson, Craig Senn, and Bruce Messe earned multiple wins.
Ames AP Iowa State University football officials moved an intrasquad game from 2 p.m. Saturday to 3 45 p.m. Monday due to soggy grounds at Clyde Williams Field in Ames.
Kirkwood swept both matches in a double dual at Ellis Park defeating Keokuk and Mt Mercy 10-0. Mike Nall led with 40, followed by John Cessna 41, Isham and Mc Namara 42, Mick Finn 44 as Kirkwood improved to 11-3.
Chicago Cubs third baseman Ron Santo fractured his right wrist when hit by a Larry Dierker pitch in the fourth inning. X rays at Wesley Memorial Hospital confirmed the fracture. Santo remained in the game until the sixth as the Cubs lost 3-0 to the Houston Astros. The team said no cast is needed but tenderness will persist about 10 days and a return date was not announced.
Decorah hosts saw Upper Iowa win both ends of a double dual with Luther and Wartburg. Upper Iowa beat Luther 10-8 and Wartburg 13 4 to 4? The meet also had Luther defeating Wartburg. Jim Fetzer of Upper Iowa earned medalist honors with a 74. Al Fish of Luther and Mike Cullen of Upper Iowa shot 75s.

Andy Lee Richmond a 19 year old from Ryan was sentenced in Delaware county district court to one year with nine months suspended. He will serve the jail term starting in June and then be placed on probation after release. Richmond was found guilty by jury on April 10 1972 of resisting arrest during a disturbance in Ryan on April 17 1971.
