Chicago AP reports Wednesday livestock receipts 6,000 hogs 11,009 cattle and 3,000 sheep. Hog supplies were heavier than expected causing sellers to trim asking prices 50 cents to $1. Cattle ranged steady to weak on most types with bulls up 25 cents. woolled lambs steady and clipped lambs marginally higher.
Hog receipts total 12,000 with slow opening and later moderating activity. Top hog price 623.75 with 60 lb 0094.23.75 and 270-290 lb at 21.50. Cattle receipts 9,003 with fed steers 20.50 to 25.25, cows 14.00 to 17.00, bulls 17.50. Lambs and sheep steady with 95 lb lambs around 23.00 to 25.00 and ewes scarce.
USDA reports salable hogs receipts near 6000 with late trade mostly steady after early drop. Cattle receipts about 10500 with fed steers and high grade stockers steady to mostly lower while select heifers and calves range $18.50 to $24.50. Sheep receipts around 5900 with old crop lambs slow, bids off, and several loads of good wool lambs at about $22.50.

Dwight Havens president of the Nebraska Junior Chamber of Commerce will speak on Lets Do a Better Job at the Young Mens bureau meeting Thursday. Informal reports on the Iowa state Junior Chamber of Commerce convention are planned for dinner. Cedar Rapids airfield welcomed the United Air Lines DC-3 as 24 United pilots completed landings qualification at the municipal airport. The aircraft arrived from Chicago at 9 45 a m marking the third pilot group to be checked out in landings here since the airport opening ceremonies.
The Chamber of Commerce purchasing agents committee will hold a luncheon Thursday at the Montrose Hotel with a short business session and a screening of the movie Fury in the Pacific. F. J. McCarthy leads the committee.

Marion council approved an ordinance barring minors from entering or working in places selling beer unless beer sales are under 50 percent of business. A separate rule bans dogs from running at large May 1 to Sept 1. Other actions include tax and street issues, permit renewals, and bond adjustments.
Marion Eastern Star chapter entertained at a friendship meeting in the Masonic temple Monday evening. Four candidates performed initiatory work as visiting chapter officers presided. Four of six Dubuque club and tavern operators paid 500 fines after county and city authorities raided last Saturday. A total of 25 slot machines were seized. The county attorney sought warrants for the remaining two operators Frank Reuter and James Metcalf who did not appear.

Don Tomash of 1816 K street SW was treated at St. Luke's hospital for a dislocated shoulder after his motorcycle skidded on Ellis boulevard NW Monday afternoon. Police say the rider was traveling west on E avenue NW and tried to turn into Ellis boulevard when the crash occurred.
