Tax 18 Out of Step With Business Says Chamber

The administration's 803 million tax bill is said to be out of step with sound American business policy. Fred H. Clausen of the U S Chamber told the senate finance committee that the budget should be balanced and that despite four tax increases since 1932 the government remains worse off. He warned the bill's revenue is uncertain and insufficient and would hinder capital formation and bondholder interests while possibly increasing bankruptcies and diverting capital to tax exempt securities. Roy C. Osgood of the First National Bank of Chicago echoed these fears noting adverse effects on corporate credit and long term financing.
