Civil War relic hunter killed by exploding cannonball
Sam White, a Virginia relic collector who hunted Civil War artifacts across the countryside, died when a cannonball he was restoring exploded in his driveway. The 53 year old hobbyist used metal detectors and tools to locate shells and flags buried since 1865, leaving a shaken field of fellow collectors.
