Mary Cassatt and the Mother's Day Mini Page
Mary Cassatt, the first American famous as a painter, lived 1844 to 1926. She never married or had children but painted tender mother scenes. At 22 she left Pennsylvania to study art in Europe, against her banker father's wishes. In Paris she joined the Impressionists, who painted daily life outdoors with loose brushwork. She balanced art with a busy social life and helped select art collections for wealthy friends. She spent most of her life abroad and died at 82.
