Vote Fails In College District Bond Issue Defeated
Cedar Rapids area voters rejected a 2 million bond issue in the south-edge district. It drew 494 for and 454 against, far short of the 60 percent needed. Voters also defeated raising the debt retirement levy from ten to 15 mills. The bond would have funded a new elementary school and additions to two junior high facilities. Superintendent James Bayne said another bond vote would be reconsidered next November. Bayne cited factors such as the levy issue and bond timing as possible causes for the defeat. The district will continue using side schools and reopen the Shueyville four‑room building due to overcrowding concerns.
