Nineteen AFL plumbers abandoned the 636 unit barrack apartments project at the University of Iowa on Thursday as their wage contracts expired. Only 35 carpenters and painters remained of 345 union workers as work halted, with some laborers expected to return Monday after a new wage agreement in Cedar Rapids. The project is about 80 percent complete with 130 student families in completed units and nearly 700 on the waiting list.

Pvt. Walter L. Florek of College Point New York was fined 25 by a court martial for disorderly conduct. He was found innocent of insulting the Russian flag and not charged with mishandling the Yugoslav flag. He testified he overheard Yugoslav civilians saying Americans have no right over the area and that those flyers were killed. A United Air Lines flight landed at Cedar Rapids Municipal Airport after a power failure halted the airport for two and a half hours. Instructions to land were relayed from Iowa City via radio after the Iowa City airport relayed guidance to the plane. Winds were 45 mph with gusts to 55 mph.

Beranek of Solon was fined 100 dollars and costs by Justice H R Churchill for reckless driving after a March 29 crash on the Draport curve six miles south of Cedar Rapids. His car struck a Cedar Rapids vehicle driven by Jerry S Dedek. Dedek’s wife Mary Jane Dedek suffered a fractured arm and deep cuts. TB Patch Testing In Cedar Rapids Schools Continues
In the Linn County Tuberculosis Association program, 143 students in 9A and 12A at Roosevelt and 143 at McKinley were tested for TB over the last two weeks. Earlier, 92 students and 60 adults were tested at Wilson, with 63 percent of McKinley staff and students and 60 percent in Roosevelt area involved. The tests will continue each spring and fall, with Franklin school next to complete Cedar Rapids public school testing. Parents must authorize patch applications, and the association bears all costs.

A Frameup Arrest Leads to Fine for Mary Hyble
Mary Hyble, 46, of 1107 Ninth Street SE, paid a $50 fine plus costs after pleading guilty in police court to a peace charge. Police said she caused a disturbance upon arriving at headquarters, kicked an officer, and threw bedding and a tin cup at a entering officer. Motorcyclist Injured Near Anamosa on Highway 151
