Herky public art parade ties Iowa City towns in 2001
Caitlin Clark, Spencer Lee, and Zach Johnson lead a 100 Herky fiberglass statue project spanning five Iowa communities. Cedar Rapids CVB aimed to unite communities and raise funds by dressing the iconic mascot as figures from American Gothic. Josh Schamberger helped coordinate the effort before moving to Iowa City CVB as Kinnick Stadium prepared for an $86.8 million renovation. Hawkeye Athletics later embraced a Herky parade to boost hype for the upgrade, deploying 75 six foot tall statues across Iowa City and Coralville, the largest public art push in local history.
