Independence Meeting Set On Crime Wave
Business leaders in Independence plan an 8 a m Monday meeting at the Pinicon hotel to discuss the citys recent vandalism and break ins. About 35 incidents have occurred since January as Barbara Dodge of the Chamber of Commerce notes. Also, Robert L. Miller 18 Independence was arrested Friday for a break in at the Red Rooster cafe and held on 5000 bond.

College Gifts Top 16 Million for Iowa Institutions 1975-76
Gifts to 24 Iowa colleges and universities totaled 16,378,175 for 1975-76, with Drake University receiving 2,659,159 and Grinnell 1,838,104. National figures show an 11.6 percent rise to 2.41 billion in giving, the first time in over a decade that growth matches education spending. Alumni led sources of support, followed by non alumni foundations and corporations.

Juvenile charged with breaking and entering in Cedar Rapids
A 15 year old Cedar Rapids youth was charged with breaking and entering after police found him inside D and E Distributing Co at 126 Twenty-ninth Street Drive SE. An overhead window had been broken to gain entry, police said.

$1000 Fine for US Prof on Drug Count
Stephen Fox a 43 year old University of Iowa psychology professor was fined 1000 dollars in Johnson county district court for marijuana possession. Three charges against Fox were dropped earlier and the same drugs plus marijuana were charged against his wife Jane Fox whose case was dropped. The raid on the residence occurred November 6 1975. The fine is the maximum for a misdemeanor under Iowa law.

Comedian George Kirby Charged in Drug Roundup
In Las Vegas comedian George Kirby and Mary Clay were charged with selling heroin to an undercover agent in a 26000 transaction. The roundup netted half a million dollars in heroin cocaine and marijuana and involved eight others. The six to eight month undercover operation spanned four locations.

Hospitalized After Accident In Iowa City
Gary W. Sexton 19 of Coggan route 2 was listed in serious condition at University of Iowa Hospitals Iowa City after a 4 30 a m traffic accident. Deputies said his eastbound vehicle hit a bridge siding over East Blue creek. He was treated at St Luke s hospital then transferred to Iowa City.
