Cedar Rapids Interstate link can be built in sections
Cedar Rapids officials told federal highway head Francis Turner that the proposed link from Cedar Rapids north to a dependence then west to Waterloo could be built in segments. Road decisions may wait, but work on the first segment between Interstate 80 and Cedar Rapids could start with accelerated funding. The group expects studies on alternative routes and a decision within three to six months.

American battlefield deaths in Vietnam fall to four-month low
U S and South Vietnamese forces reported reduced American casualties last week totaling 183 killed with 1 285 wounded while enemy losses reached 9 862 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese. The offsetting spike in casualties and broader shelling suggested intensified enemy activity near border areas and in the Third Corps zone. Pentagon officials say a captured Viet Cong staff movement points to planned political uprising and coordinated attacks on Saigon this summer.
