Branstad signs bills to limit Iowa minimum wage and rewrite workers' comp
Gov. Terry Branstad signed two major pro business measures in Des Moines, enacting House File 295 to bar localities from higher county wages than the statewide 7.25 and establishing state authority on business rules. The companion measure, HF 518, rewrites Iowa's 1913 workers' compensation law to balance employer competitiveness with worker protections. Critics call the steps ideological and harmful to injured workers. Iowa Policy Project's Mike Owen condemned the action while noting county officials' courage in some counties to act independently.
