Community Theater to Stage Hatful of Rain for Drug Abuse Fight
Cedar Rapids Community Theater will present A Hatful of Rain to support a community action program against drug abuse. An invited audience of leaders from medicine education religion government and media will attend a post show discussion. Volunteers may register in lobby during April run with curtain times 7 30 Thursdays and 8 on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations 362 7632.

Strand Theater Demolished for Parking Lot in Maine
The Strand theater in Portland once the region’s largest movie house and early stage for star Rudy Vallee will be torn down to make way for a parking lot. Built in 1911 it was known as The Big Nickel and its ornate lobby will become retail space.

Ice Follies founder Oscar Johnson dies at 71
Oscar Johnson, 71, co founder of the Shipstads and Johnson Ice Follies, died Friday in Rochester Minnesota after a battle with cancer. Johnson and Roy and Eddie Shipstad created the ice show in 1936 and sold it eight years ago.
