World marbles champion Smith, a steelworker, won the title at Tinsley Green England on Friday for the eleventh time and immediately issued a challenge to an American challenger for a half million dollars. Thomas Jackson Tillery of Tuscaloosa, Alabama cabled his challenge. The Marbles Board of Control hopes to arrange a match.

Des Moines UPI. Iowa will cut monthly Aid to Dependent Children grants immediately due to federal objections to the state formula. About 17,584 cases will be affected with two to six member families losing $1 to $3 monthly, while some seven and eight member households gain. In Polk County roughly 2,600 families are affected. the three member grant drops from 244 to 243 dollars. Officials call the cut not drastic, but recipients expect impact.

Plane crash kills former Iowan in Colorado Springs
