President Johnson called for a federal investigation into the price gap between producers and consumers focusing on meat. He outlined plans to seek legislation to form a bipartisan 15 member commission to study shifts in the food industry and cited examples of producers earning 25 to 30 percent less while housewives pay 25 to 30 percent more.
A Birmingham News telephoned interview with Alaska Gov. Egan's aide Joe Rothstein reveals the scope after Friday's earthquake and tidal wave. SEATTLE AP Teams of doctors nurses and lab technicians rallied in Washington state to aid Alaska after the Friday night quake and tidal wave. A five doctor ten nurse and twenty aid man military medical team left McChord Air Base for Fairbanks. Medical appointments at Madigan General Hospital were canceled to free personnel. Dr James F Lane said two medical teams stood by with four doctors three nurses four nurse assistants and one lab technician each. He noted Anchorage hospital remains intact with standby power. Civil disaster officials in Washington said help is not immediately needed though some may be sent to outlying Alaska sites.
