Grass fires burn across Johnson County area
Dry windy conditions kept area fire departments busy with at least 60 firefighters from 12:30 p m to 6 p m. Fires on Ocean Boulevard 560th Street and Sand Road north of Hills were fought with help from Riverside Coralville Kalona Lone Tree and West Branch. A separate Linn Delaware Road blaze near Coggon burned about 100 acres as crews protected nearby farms. Wind gusts reached 40 to 43 mph in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City regions.
