Marion weighs ambulance service options

Firefighters urged Marion to buy two ambulances to run its own service, but a study led by Fire Chief Terry Jackson and Assistant Chief John Madland recommends keeping the current contract with Area Ambulance. Area covers Marion when local responders are busy, in exchange for about 36 800 dollars annually. A full two-vehicle in-house system would cost at least 135 000 in the first year plus 190 000 for vehicle purchase and future replacements. Area Ambulance is Cedar Rapids based.
