Marion Police Chief Proposes Reorganization Plan
Marion City Council gave tentative approval to Chris Ebert’s plan to add one officer and promote four to new command roles. The plan would create a captain unit and a support division, add lieutenants on patrol shifts, a training and policy officer, a fourth sergeant in investigations, and increase patrols from 12 to 18 with a goal of 29 officers within two years. The cost is about 10 thousand dollars annually in salary increases, offset by overtime savings. Councilwoman Leona Smith dissented to allow more study. Mike DeLaMeter urged further review, fearing too many commanders could thin patrol strength.
