Fayette High School Co op Idea Prompts Debate In Fayette
A Rhode Island professor Dan Bergen proposed keeping Fayette High School by forming a cooperative with Upper Iowa University. School officials oppose the idea citing costs and practicality while UIU leaders remain neutral and the mayor watches a state bill on tuitioning out students. Bergen envisions shared instruction, libraries and labs funded by a Fayette Community School District contract. The proposal comes as Fayette weighs merger options with West Central Maynard or North Fayette West Union amid declining enrollment and state aid.

Look alike law enforcement uniforms outlawed
The Iowa Senate voted 42 1 to make wearing uniforms resembling state troopers or sheriff's officers a simple misdemeanor unless worn by licensed personnel. Sen Wally Horn cited confusion when small town officers wear similar attire. The measure awaits House approval. Sen Douglas Ritsema dissented, arguing existing impersonation laws suffice.
