Power outage in Cedar Rapids impacts 560 customers
More than five hundred Alliant Energy customers in southwest Cedar Rapids lost power Friday evening after a back hoe damaged a power line near 12th Avenue and Ninth Street SW. Some 560 customers were affected as a nearby pole fell after 5 p.m. The incident was confirmed by Alliant spokesman Mike Wagner.

Iowa City police veteran to be honored for 50 years of service
Iowa City celebrates 50 years of service by Dave Harris of the police department during its Employee Service Awards. Harris began as a radio operator and rose to sergeant before retirement in 1985. He later returned as a civilian radio dispatcher and since 1991 has served as a community service officer in the evidence division.
