Iowa House Extends Budget Protection for Fluctuating Enrollments
The Iowa House approved a two year extension of budget protections for elementary and secondary schools facing enrollment swings. The plan costs 6.9 million the first year and 5.7 million the second, funded by local property taxes. Forty plus districts could benefit as districts lose or gain students. The measure links to a study on district mergers and requires local tax dollars, not state funds, to cover the protection.
