Strawber ry Point Man Swindled Out of 500

In Strawberry Point an elderly man, Louis Kaiser, was duped by a visitor posing as a Chicago eye specialist who examined his eyes and charged 500 in cash. The same day a second man visited James Debes, asking about past glasses and money, raising suspicion. Investigators continue the case.

Wellman awarded 95000 verdict in Eldora case

Robert D. Wellman won a 95000 verdict from a district court jury Friday night in a motor vehicle injury suit. He was injured June 28 in a collision two miles east of Eldora when his motorcycle hit Dale Reisinger’s truck as it turned into a farm driveway.

In Prescott, police seek two strangers who lured a farmer with a cigarette and led him to a hotel where a man named T B Horton of St Joseph Missouri joined. Horton and a partner then took his cash of 4300, ditched the farmer and vanished, leaving no trace.

Flying Chair crashes before air test at Iowa City airport

Iowa City pilots Roger Wymore and Darrell Loan, two University of Iowa mechanical engineering students, loss control during a test flight of their homemade one passenger gyro plane. The gyroplane flipped, rotor and rudder damaged, no injuries reported. The craft, built with Prof. E. E. Lundquist advising, had two prior flights but failed during a planned 2 p.m. test.

Teamsters Policy Group Calls Senate Probe Unjust

The Teamsters policy committee representing about 450000 members condemned the Senate rackets investigation as unjust and deceitful. They criticized the McClellan committee methods and warned unions faces smear tactics if hearings lack cross examination. Local 46 of La Salle Illinois urged Beck and five officers resign and for a trusteeship to oversee the union.

Suspended Sentence For Cedar Rapids Youth After Disturbance

An 11 year old Cedar Rapids youth received a six month suspended jail sentence in district court on a resisting an officer charge. Judge Charles Penningroth imposed the suspension on good behavior and medical bills for deputy Philip Hoover who suffered facial lacerations and facial and dental damage during the incident at First Avenue and Fifth Street West near an auto crash.

A San Francisco tremor halted the four faced clock on the Ferry Building minutes after the quake struck. Another clock in the Central Tower building, previously broken for years, chimed during the tremor, marking the event.
