U I PDP project helps study shuttle plasma in space
Iowa scientists led by Stanley Shawhan prepare the Plasma Diagnostics Package for NASA's shuttle Columbia. The 400 pound instrument will study plasma around the orbiter and measure electro magnetic interference during flights three to five. Researchers in Iowa City and at Mission Control monitor data as Jack Lousma and C Gordon Fullerton orbit every 90 minutes on a seven day test flight.
