Nicotine levels in newborns mirror mothers’ smoking
A Belgian study presented at the American College of Cardiology finds newborns of smoking mothers have cotinine levels similar to adult smokers, implying in utero exposure and withdrawal risk. Researchers tested 273 children including 139 newborns, showing high nicotine traces in infants.
