Surgery urged for crossed eyes in infants at six months
Dr. Marshall M. Parks of Children's Hospital warns most children born with crossed eyes need early surgery to gain normal vision. He notes many doctors delay, hoping for spontaneous correction, but congenital crossed eyes do not improve on their own. Surgery is best by around six months to prevent loss of binocular vision. If delayed beyond early years, lasting correction may be unlikely.

Major U S Surgeries of 1969 Revealed by Commission Study
A study by the Commission on Hospital Activities reviewed over 4 million U S patient records. In 1969 the most performed operations were tonsillectomies, dilation and curettage, hernia repair, cholecystectomy, total abdominal hysterectomy, and appendectomy. Death rates below 1 per 10,000 were for tonsillectomy plus minor eye muscle procedures. Since 1969 abortion-law liberalization, dilation and curettage is now thought to be the most frequent surgery.
