Professor R C Ashby of the University of Illinois told 300 livestock feeders at the Chicago Producers Association annual meeting that more markets curb competition as Iowa packing growth erodes Chicago terminal influence. Earl Smith and others urged consignments to terminals and cooperative yards, citing a drop in Chicago receipts from 1924 to 1933 but rising direct sales and increased trucking to Chicago.

Horse shortages to persist for years says Linn
A special report from Luze rne notes Iowa Horse and Mule Association fieldman Harry Linn says the horse problem will deepen for at least three years despite increased mare breeding. He warns many aged work horses will die off faster than new colts can replace them and urges breeding two year old mares. The mule situation is tougher with reduced activity in Missouri and Iowa and mule reliance declining in southern cotton areas. Approximately four hundred farmers watched Linn break and hitch two year old colts on the Jensen farm near Lu zerne.
