Cedar Rapids Woman Fined for Drunk Driving
Cedar Rapids court fined Gayle Kupps 300 dollars after pleading guilty to drunk driving for a Wednesday accident at Sixteenth avenue and Ninth street Southwest. The 40 year old, of 943 East Eighteenth Avenue Southwest, faces sentencing. Harold Bascom, 24, was given until Tuesday to plead to a forged check charge involving a 27 dollar counterfeit check at a service station. Three men Francis Smith 26 Edward Svoboda 19 and James Stewart 18 face larceny in the nighttime charges for taking two hubcaps from a car parked at the E and R cafe on March 10. Stewart was arraigned Thursday and given until Wednesday to plead.

Plaintiffs Lose Suit For 3000 Damages
A directed verdict for the defendant in the jury trial of a 3000 damage claim was entered by Judge Floyd Philbrick. Plaintiffs Edward and Martha Petrick alleged Armstrong cut an elm and planted bushes on their property. The Linn county jury was excused until March 23. Suits filed and other actions noted include Raymond Segriff appealing a municipal court conviction and various civil actions in progress. Agnes Marak died February 27 leaving 2500 in trust for a granddaughter and 4000 in trust for a son.

Slechta 83 Dies. Cedar Rapids Man Was Longtime Bricklayer
Charles Slechta 83 of Cedar Rapids died Thursday. Born in Podebrady Czechoslovakia he came to the United States 55 years ago and worked as a bricklayer and stone mason for more than 50 years retiring 18 years ago. He recently received a life membership in the Bricklayers Masons and Plasterers International Union and was the second local No 1 member in Cedar Rapids to earn the honor. He belonged to Lodge Prokop Vesky No 7 ZCBJ and the Czech Reading society. Surviving are five daughters and one sister. His wife Barbara died in 1950. Services at 2 Sunday at Janeba's conducted by Rev Joseph Havlik burial at Czech National. Friends may call at the funeral home.
