Attorney general rule ties sentence to crime dates
Des Moines opinion says prison term cannot start before crime. Cecil Paulson, 24, Waterloo, got 10 years for breaking and entering. After escaping confinement in 1937 he shot at a police officer, was recaptured, given five years for escape, and later a 30 year term for assault with intent to commit murder. Judge Evans held sentences start from the first prison entry, which would push back the assault sentence two years before the crime.
