E. E. Collis a Malcom windmill repairman was killed Friday night aiding victims of a crash four miles east of Grinnell. He directed traffic around a burning car when struck by Frank Roth's truck and died instantly. Five others were injured Ed Pins Dubuque George Norris Dysart Walter Hockey Montezuma R. R. Houser Marengo Norman Kennedy Crown Point. Pins Norris and Hockey had only minor injuries.

Newton Auto Dealer Dies In Fog Hit And Run
William Hagen 48 of Grinnell was killed on highway 6 between Newton and Grinnell when two parked cars were struck by a third vehicle in dense fog. Hagen talked with Orvis Schlotterback and Ralph Widerman whose car had run out of fuel. Coroner Ralph Toland said Vernon Anderson of Kellogg drove the hitting car. Hagen suffered a fractured skull and both legs. Toland did not plan an inquest.

Fire At Wellman Wipes Out Clothing Stock
Fire in the Toggery shop owned by Mear Munson and QO Blumenstein caused a loss estimated at 12 000 to 15 000 in Wellman Friday night. The two story building owned by Mrs. W E Maplethorpe of Garwin housed Jones Insurance on the second floor and apartments. Fire started in sawdust insulation and spread to walls and displays before breaking out again after initial suppression.

Elias Shoemaker 69 died Thursday night of a heart attack. Funeral services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Johnston Funeral home with Rev. Lloyd Gustafson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon cemetery. He was born in Trenton Missouri and moved to Mount Vernon 29 years ago. Surviving: three sons Everett and Edgar of Mount Vernon and Ralph of Mendota Sr. three sisters Mrs. William Barnett and Mrs. Effie McLaughlin, both of Mount Vernon. three brothers Sherman of Mount Vernon Ben of New Boston IL and Grant of Joplin MO.
