Murphy Opposes Beef and Dairy Processing Taxes in Senate
Special Correspondent reports Senator Louis Murphy of Iowa questions the Jones bill proposing a 2,000,000 fund under the Agricultural Adjustment Act to pay beef and dairy producers. He argues the hog tax fell largely on producers, urges Treasury funding for relief, and seeks limits on Agriculture Department authority to impose processing taxes. He warns such taxes could sustain low prices and harm cattle feeders and dairy farmers.
