Rusk affirms U S hold on Berlin and global role

Secretary of State Rusk said the United States will keep forces in Berlin indefinitely to defend the city and its inhabitants. He noted withdrawal could occur if Germany is unified but refused to tie troop removal to unification. Rusk urged a hemispheric solution to Cuba and discussed Red China talks, NATO duties, and plans for upcoming trips to Turkey and Thailand.

East Iowans Dig Out After Snowstorm Backs Sunshine

Linn Legislators Call Meeting on Noelridge Park

The Cedar Rapids area legislative delegation schedules a March 17 meeting at the Roosevelt hotel to discuss transferring part of Noelridge Park from Marion rural to Cedar Rapids for school construction. The Lange-Graham plan to reshuffle Iowa s eight congressional districts into seven passes the Iowa House by 67 to 39 and moves Winneshiek and Buchanan counties to the Third district while Benton shifts to the Fourth and Iowa County to the proposed Fourth. Senate action is expected with amendments to protect Winneshiek and Buchanan.
