Hoosman sparked East Waterloo with a 23 point performance and fierce defense to topple Cedar Rapids Regis 53 47 in the district final game. A 4th quarter rally and a highlight dunk sealed the win as 6 139 fans watched three classes compete in the Hippodrome.
Blairstown defeats previously unbeaten Roland 62-60 in the class B district final at LeGrand to claim the school’s first district title. Joe Less scores 19 of 22 in the second half, lifting Blairstown from an 18-11 deficit to the win as Roland’s 25-game streak ends. Blairstown advances to sub state vs Hudson in Waterloo.
The welterweight elimination bout between Frederico Thompson and Benny Paret in New York has been postponed by one week to March 25 according to AP reports.
Monticello's Black Panthers, led by coach Dean Nelson, never trailed Maquoketa and sealed an 80 56 class A district victory for their 25th straight win. Maquoketa's Larry Loos sparked early offense, but Monticello pulled away in the final seven minutes setting up a sub state clash with Mason City Holy Family.

Beloit and Coe players receive notes.
