Govt Rules Hurt Markets Says Wilson
Chicago reports that P. O. Wilson, secretary manager of the National Livestock Producers association, blamed government price controls for swelling market numbers and slaughtering plants. He said prewar markets ranged around 100 terminal and 1,000 local markets, now numbering in the thousands, with slaughterers rising from about 1,800 to 9,000, creating a black market and wasteful conditions. He warned continued controls would worsen chaos, cut meat production, and raise costs for consumers.
