Chicago Discontinues Big Ten Sports
The University of Chicago will withdraw from regular competition in the Big Ten after helping organize it in 1896. Athletic director Nelson Metcalf said the move is made with regret but that Chicago will continue intercollegiate athletics and seek schedules with conference opponents where mutually advantageous. The conference directors accepted the withdrawal with regrets and will formalize action at the spring meeting in Champaign on May 30-31.
