First United Methodist Church hosts a Men s Lenten breakfast Saturday at 7 a m with Dr Paul Heath speaking on Insistence and Rightness. Fire damage from chimney and apartment stove fires
Marion firefighters answered two calls Monday evening. A chimney fire at the Jon Smith residence 1477 Seventh St caused smoke damage but no fire damage. A pan left on a stove in Anne Hartman s apartment 170 Southview Drive damaged the pan stove fan hood cupboards and wall. All four apartments in the building had smoke damage.

Arraignment Set in Cedar Rapids Attempted Murder Case
Linn County attorney files a true information charging Eldon F. Burr with attempted murder for allegedly giving poisoned candy to his wife Theda between January 1 and February 24. Burr, 53, was released on a $50,000 bond with 10 percent cash. He bypassed a scheduled preliminary hearing and will be arraigned next Tuesday.
