Soybeans futures moved higher on the Chicago Board of Trade with a near four cent advance before profit-taking trimmed some gains. March soybeans settled up about 24 cents, while wheat edged lower and corn rose modestly amid a mixed session.
Prices paid on the Cedar Rapids hog market Monday were steady to 30c lower. Saturday’s bids for country and plant delivered butchers weighing 200 to 230 lbs ranged $23.25 to $24.00, with packer and weight-based reductions noted for heavier hogs.
Amana Refrigeration announces overtime for production to handle rising demand. About 14 million employees will shift from eight to nine hours daily across two full shifts and a smaller third shift. After a strong 1971, the first seven weeks of 1972 show a substantial sales increase across all products. Company officials say hiring for more production workers will continue indefinitely.
John W. Snyder aged 21 of 1725 Johnson Avenue NW and Neena Miller aged 19 of 1338 Third Avenue SE were charged with possession of marijuana. Deputies found two marijuana cigarettes after stopping their pickup on Old Highway 30 west of Mt. Vernon for a faulty tail light. One cigarette was thrown from the window. the other in the ashtray. Miller released on her own recognizance. Snyder held on 2.5 bond at Linn County Jail.

Kathleen McDonnell, 20, and Renee Beachler, 21, Cedar Rapids residents, were hospitalized after a collision on Interstate 180 near Grinnell. McDonnell is in fair condition at University Hospital with back injuries. Beachler is in fair condition at St. Luke's with a broken leg. The sisters were en route to Des Moines when an icy patch caused the crash.

Joseph C Berry, 45, of Jolson avenue NW, Cedar Rapids, was arrested Saturday on an assault and battery warrant issued by Justice of the Peace Glenn Powers. His wife Gertrude alleged he beat her in the face. Berry posted bond and was released. An item appears in the classified notice.
