At Iowa State University short course cattle feeders weighed feeding costs against the choice grade premium. Speakers described USDA choice criteria maturity marbling and conformation and noted exotic breeds can reach choice with heavier feed. Farm Program Signups Set 1972 Cutback Target
Washington AP Agri culture department officials expect a progress report on farmer enrollments in 1972 set aside and feed grain programs this week. By March 2 signups, less than 13.3 million acres had enrolled, about one third of the 38 million acres planned. USDA aims to reduce feed grains and wheat output to avoid another large crop like last year’s record 5.5 billion bushels of corn.

Farmers Won't Get Second Payment for 1971 Feed Grain Program
Bob Wegmuller, ASCS executive director in Alburtne Linn county, says farmers who joined last year's feed grain program will not receive a second payment. The five month national average price of corn was 1.0468 per bushel, above the 1.03 minimum to trigger a second payment, so no extra funds will be paid.
