Couples influence weight loss within households study
The study finds that partners of participants in weight loss programs also lose weight, with average gains of about 5 pounds for Weight Watchers partners and 4 pounds for handout partners. After six months both groups show a 2.09 percent average loss, and the ripple effect appears across genders and weight statuses. The team notes the need for longer term, more diverse research and suggests leveraging social dynamics to improve weight management programs.
