The information was withheld to spare him distress as he recently suffered a heart attack. The siblings were flying home to be with him while she was a Stanford student and he a senior.
A TWA four engine airliner with nine aboard is feared to have crashed in the Tehachapi mountains east of Fresno after radio silence from 11:28 p.m. Tuesday. Ground searchers, forest rangers, farm crews and officials from San Francisco and Los Angeles scour the rugged terrain as weather hampers aerial help. The craft, valued at $105,000, was bound from San Francisco to Los Angeles and was to have changed planes in LA.
Attorneys for Lester Brockelhurst petitioned circuit court in Pine Bluff Arkansas to compel Prison Supt Al Reed to hold a sanity hearing for the former Sunday school teacher described as a crime tourist. Reed had previously refused a direct petition for the hearing.
