Linn County Sales Tax Discussion Affects School Funding
Linn County educators consider a 1 percent local option sales tax to fund school needs and reduce property taxes. Projections show annual school district revenue of about 10 million, with 4.5 to 5 million for maintenance and 1 to 1.5 million for technology, potentially replacing the current levy. Election timing debated with August or September votes to start collections in January 2006. District officials emphasize tax relief for property owners and shared proceeds among districts, cities, and county agencies.
