Cedar Rapids police search for a brown haired boy in a blue jacket after a series of assaults on Johnson Elementary School girls near Washington and 18th Street SE. Victims described a five foot tall male with dark hair, a blue jacket, and dark eyes who chased, grabbed, or raped them in several incidents.
Richard Leslie Schrier 25 of Des Moines reacts with a screaming, fighting rage after a guilty verdict for first degree murder and first degree sexual abuse in a moved trial at Council Bluffs. Deputies restrain him as he is led from court and later jailed for sentencing set April 6.
Linda Eaton, 26, Iowa City's only female firefighter, sought to nurse her baby at work after suspensions and threats of dismissal. The Iowa Civil Rights Commission found probable cause of sex discrimination, prompting a temporary injunction and a pending investigation. A conciliatory meeting was planned.
Collins Air Transport Division of Rockwell International secures a second major Boeing contract for electronic flight instruments for the 767 and 757 twinjets. The roughly $50 million order covers 600 shipsets with delivery starting late 1981, all work to be done in Cedar Rapids.
