Firework injures man in Bigfork study cites shell-and-mortar risk
Mike Spencer held a shell-and-mortar firework above his head in Bigfork Montana on April 30 2015. The blast caused severe hand injuries and he was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. Harborview researchers reviewed a decade of injuries with shell-and-mortar devices representing about 40 percent of cases. Nationally about 10 500 people are treated yearly for firework injuries per the CPSC.
