Permaculture Education Center envisioned for New Bohemia
Architectural student Malorie Hepner imagines a 45000 square foot Permaculture Education Center in Cedar Rapids New Bohemia District linking sustainable education to a Czech heritage site. The plan includes a greenhouse, barnlike visitor center and a restaurant in the Little Bo building with a farmers market and hands on projects. Her thesis proposes reuse of locally sourced materials to honor the area’s history while spurring downtown activity and community involvement. The cost is not estimated and officials acknowledge it may not be built for decades.
