Silver Star for gallantry in Korea awarded to S Sgt Elmer N Brokaw
M/Sgt Elmer N. Brokaw, son of Mr and Mrs Elmer Brokaw, receives the Silver Star for actions near Surang ni Korea on April 24 25 as platoon sergeant of Company F 15th Infantry Regiment 3rd Division. He dispersed his men, established a defense and led a counterattack after a shell wounded the platoon leader. He aided evacuation and helped organize several squads. Other local servicemen noted include Jack Pugh in Seattle Eldon Whetstine at Kessler Air Base Biloxi and Duane Miller stationed in Japan and Joe Gries headed to Fort Bliss Texas.
